MPA Announces Logos, Schedules and Ticketing Details Ahead of 2025 MPA Maine State Basketball Tournament presented by Ware-Butler Building Supply, a division of Pleasant River Lumber

AUGUSTA — The Maine Principals’ Association (MPA), the state’s governing body for high school athletics is pleased to reveal the 2025 logos, schedules, and ticketing details for the upcoming MPA Maine State Basketball Tournament presented by Ware-Butler Building Supply, a division of Pleasant River Lumber.

This year’s tournament will shine a spotlight on more than 200 of Maine’s nearly 300 high school boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. While the regular season was originally scheduled to wrap up on Thursday, the MPA extended the final day of play through Friday, February 7, due to the forecasted winter storm and its impact on safe travel. Heal Points, the system designed to select teams for tournament play based on strength of schedule, for the five classifications will be finalized on Saturday, February 8, and brackets are expected to be released that day, too.

“What an exciting month in the state of Maine,” said Glen Albee, President of Ware-Butler Building Supply, a division of Pleasant River Lumber. “The tradition of this basketball tournament means so much to so many Mainers, and once again we are honored to support the MPA and its schools, coaches and student-athletes.”

It is expected that more than 93,000 fans will travel to game sites throughout the state to see their favorite teams compete to hoist a “gold ball” trophy and participate in the tradition of cutting down the nets.

“This tournament creates many special moments,” continued Albee. “We have employees who are officials for the tournament, coaches of their hometown teams, and family members of the talented student-athletes who are competing. The excitement is palpable, and we can’t wait to crown 10 new state champions this winter.”

Tickets for all sessions at all venues are available via GoFan and can be accessed by clicking here. Purchasing tickets in advance of arriving at a venue will save fans time at the gate where lines often extend into the cold outdoors. Tickets may be purchased on site at the same price as online tickets, and only credit or debit cards will be accepted.

“We are so thankful that the venues we use helped us to eliminate fans having to visit multiple Web sites to purchase tickets,” said Michael Burnham, Executive Director of the MPA. “We are thrilled to welcome back thousands of student-athletes, including cheerleaders and band members, to the 2025 tournament. Additionally, Ware-Butler Building Supply and Pleasant River Lumber’s continued commitment to the MPA is so appreciated by our member schools.”

While the tournament teams and fans bring their own energy and enthusiasm for the tournament, the MPA will also celebrate the 50th year of sponsoring a tournament for female student-athletes. The first tournament was held in 1975, and the following champions were crowned:

  • Class A: Gardiner def. Morse, 70-62
  • Class B: Lake Region def. Van Buren, 63-55
  • Class C: Hall-Dale def. Katahdin, 64-62 (3OT)
  • Class D: East Grand def. Richmond, 49-41

Members of these championship teams are invited to attend this year’s state championship games, and team members will be honored at halftime of the games. If you are a member of one of the championship teams listed above and have not been contacted by your school’s current athletic administrator or a member of the MPA staff, please reach out to mpa@mpa.cc for further instructions to RSVP for the anniversary celebrations.
